I stumbled upon this article via Boing Boing. Apparently, a bronze statue of Bruce Lee, famed martial arts actor, has been erected in Mostar, a city in Bosnia. Here’s a quote from the article:
“We will always be Muslims, Serbs or Croats,” said Veselin Gatalo of the youth group Urban Movement Mostar.
“But one thing we all have in common is Bruce Lee.”
Now, Bosnia’s past has been more than bumpy, and I understand their desire to have some sort of “symbol of the fight against ethnic divisions”. But come on, Bruce Lee? BRUCE LEE?
That’s like erecting a statue of Arnold Schwarzenegger in a park in Addis Abbaba as a “symbol against the struggle with Eritrea”.
