Well, here’s some sound advice, worthy of at least a mention in Lifehacker, maybe even a whole series featuring me elaborating on my advice:
If you ever own a digital camera, make the fuck sure the internal date is correctly set. Otherwise, once you’ve decided that it’s time to finally index all your photos, you’ll have ended up with 2 years of pictures apparently shot on the 1st of January 2003. And while tracing back the real dates via blog posts, Flickr uploads and email correspondence (GMail, thank you so very much for your search feature), may be a nice opportunity to relive the past years, it does take ages.
