On holidays, finally

The first three weeks of my summerjob are over, and today marks the beginning of my two week vacation. And now we’re already off to the mountains, in anticipation of an interesting opera tonight. Have a nice weekend as well.

The Cat that Shat

Yesterday I explained to my co-workers that the most expensive coffee in the world is in fact made of coffee beans eaten, digested and shat out by a catlike marsupial. They thought I was shitting them (ha!), and demanded proof. Well, I gave them proof today by printing out a detailed story about Kopi Luwak, the most expensive piece of shit people drink. And since I can’t get enough of that sordid little story, here’s a nice gif animation explaining graphically how that coffee is produced (it’s actually a cute little animation, so no need to freak out).

Temporary hiatus

Tomorrow I’ll be leaving for the US, in order to attend a wedding. I’ll be spending a week there, and although I’ll probably be snapping hundreds of pictures, I won’t have time to update this blog regularly. Rest assured though, a flood of entries will document my journey once I’ve returned. That’s what I’ve got my little Moleskine for.

By the way, since I’ll have to sit out a five-hour stay at Dulles Airport in Washington, I wondered if anyone knows of anything interesting to do there. Please let me know.

Another step in the making of an art-expert

Today, as part of my girlfriend’s birthday celebration, we went and saw the excellent Rene Magritte exhibition presently on display in Vienna. Here’s a link to the exhibition website. Now, I don’t know about you, but I’ve always liked Magritte much better than Dali. Of course, Dali’s got the press and did the Lindbergh baby prank, but Magritte seems much more subtle to me. And subtle I like.

Give and ye shall receive

Has your video-rental ever given you a cake? For free? For no apparent reason? Well, thought so. I on the other hand, after renting a couple of DVDs for tonight’s entertainment, was the recipient of a delicious Austrian made cake. On my enquiry what exactly warranted that display of genuine affection, the clerk herself didn’t have an answer. She just mentioned that she’d been told to hand out cakes today. Well, that’s how I got a cake from my video-rental. Since you know that I’ve got more than enough time on my hands, and as I have a newly implemented gallery function, I decided to give you a glimpse of what pure Austrian-made cake heaven looks like. Click the image below to be amazed:

The Cake

PS: It was raining while I carried home that cake. So those drops visible on the cake are raindrops, not saliva.
