Burn, burn, burn

Being traditionalists in quite a pagan sense, at my parents’ house the solstice has always been celebrated by exchanging the year-old mistletoe with a new one. And since old twigs burn like hell, and fire is pagan as well, the old one is burned not least for effect.

Legal reading age

I just perused the internets to see if I’d find any information on a wine we sometimes buy, and found this winery called Gallo of Sonoma, which produces said wine. Here comes the interesting part: As I wanted to actually enter the site, meaning getting past the splash screen, I was greeted by this message:

If you are not of legal drinking age you may not enter this site.

followed by a pulldown menu which let me enter my date of birth.

Now, the dangers of alcoholism are really well-documented, and I’d be the last one to protest measures against heavy drinking, but I didn’t know that you’re not even allowed to read about alcohol if you’re not of legal age! READ!

Well, this surely solves the question what all these underaged kids are doing online all the time…no, they’re not surfing porn sites or illegally downloading music, they are actually reading up on alcohol, getting all high on pictures of beercans and delicate bouteilles of chilled white wine.

The big picture…

has emerged, eventually. To chime in with Mig, thanks Horst for letting me participate. It really was quite something.

Train of thought

I think the headline for this entry is so extremely clever, there isn’t really any need to explain what the whole image gallery below is about. Just click the image and enjoy:

So it’s that time of the year again

To start off this rather aimless posting, here’s a photo for you to enjoy:

that time of the year again

That picture’s two years old, but since I haven’t taken any interesting snow photos lately, that one has to do.
Now, on to a little round.up of what’s been going on lately:
* I’ve successfully completed my sixth day of being a runner. I’ve actually been sportive six days in a row, which is more than ever before in my whole life. Considering that during the last few months I’ve quit smoking and picked up regular exercise, I guess it’s safe to assume that my reputation is now tarnished beyond repair.
* Christmas in less than a week. That’s why I’ll be leaving Vienna for The Family tomorrow. Expect loads of interesting tales about Christmas traditions and pictures of stuffed dead birds (just like last year).
* Well, that’s it, really, but lists consisting of only two items are pathetic.
