Plant chronicles Pt.IV

To say it like my Brit-friends (of whom I don’t have any, but please, let me pass on that one), I couldn’t be arsed to write anything meaningful. But since you’re all used to my regular updating cycle, here’s an update to my plant chronicles:

plant chronicles part 4

As you can see, apart from the snow, nothing much has changed.

Upgrade fest

Since it’s Saturday, traditionally the day for idleness and general hilarity, I decided to upgrade my WordPress installation to 1.5.1. I don’t think it’s really necessary, but as you all know, I like to stay on top of things. Well, on top of some things. Just to demonstrate what a mess on your computer can do to you, let me recount the happenings of the last hour:
I deleted all my WordPress files, save the ones I modified. I then went into the folder on my computer where I had stored the new WordPress version. I uploaded all the contents to my server. Everything went fine, but afterwards I noticed a strange PHP-warning at the bottom of the screen when accessing my site. I checked the WordPress support page, amounting to nothing. So I did a bit of searching, and while inside the admin-panel of WordPress, I noticed that it still said: 1.5…not 1.5.1. So I checked the folder on my computer and noticed that I had re-uploaded 1.5 instead of 1.5.1. Isn’t that totally crazy? Wrong folder!

Well, there you go. A most boring story, which somehow, like a slimy mollusk, evaded my ability to turn even the most dull of occurrences into exciting adventures. Let me make it up to you with a picture:

Have a nice day.

That random helmet

I’ve got enough. Probably in an effort to mock me, people have been flocking in like crazy after this posting about “the helmet”. So, I decided to rename the picture to something inconspicuous, so Google Image won’t be able to track it down. And of course those people who hotlink to the picture, stealing my bandwidth, won’t be able to use it either. Maybe that’s what you get for nicking a picture to fatten up a posting.

Inconsistencies

Since I bought my Medion Jukebox, I haven’t had any problems with it really. Sure, navigation doesn’t work as smooth as it does on an iPod, but there are various factors which make my mp3 player even more handy than an iPod. Indexing on the player, for example. I don’t need any proprietary software to load or unload my player, and I can easily use it as a simple USB storage medium. There’s one downside though, which is the battery life. It’s not perfect. Eight hours when left alone, with no using the wheel and background light. That is enough for everyday use in public transport, but not enough for, say, my trip to the States. So I ordered a replacement battery, and they quickly sent one. I had read in discussion forums that people in Germany had done that, and instead of returning the original battery, they had kept it for a meager 15 €. Well, obviously there’s an extra battery-tax in effect here in Austria, because when checking back with the people at Medion if they could please send me a bill for the battery, it turned out they wanted 28,70 € for it. Which is, according to the little mathematical knowledge I do possess, almost twice as much as the German version. I do hope mine is twice as good.

The Cannes Jury

I yesterday heard who’s in the jury for this year’s Cannes Festival. I haven’t seen too many of Javier Bardem’s movies, but I vividly remember his performance in Perdita Durango. Albeit entertaining and a lot of fun, it’s a wreck of a movie. I wonder if he’s now feeling similar to what Peter Jackson felt when he scored the director’s seat for Lord of the Rings. Considering that Jackson once made the probably worst B-movie of all times.
