I don’t know exactly what “Home Respiratory Care” does, but when the driver of a van which has that writing on the sides is smoking, is that a good or a bad sign?

During our weekly DVD evening, we yesterday watched Man on Fire, an otherwise quite interesting movie. The problem with the DVD was that it was set up like a VHS tape. The DVD started with an extremely lengthy preview of an ultra-violent movie (well, so it seemed…maybe they only showed the really brutal stuff in order to…uh, well, wouldn’t really make sense). I tried to fast-forward or go to the next scene or enter the DVD menu, but nothing worked. So we sat through the preview, expecting the menu to appear afterward. Well, no menu, but straight to the movie. Which is odd already, but it became worse. There was no way to change language or subtitle settings. The movie started German-dubbed, and apparently that was the only way we could watch it. Obviously, the people who devised the DVD didn’t have any material at all to put onto the disc, so they decided to simply skip everything else an ordinary DVD has to offer as well. Which, in a Machiavellian sense, is a really good plan. Like this, everybody will be bitching about the lack of basic features, and nobody will notice that there’s not a single special feature on it. Too bad I’m such a genius! Your plan failed! You suck!
PS: My girlfriend mentioned that after the preview of the ultra-violent movie, it said “Comming soon!”. By then I had lost interest in the TV-screen, so I couldn’t confirm it. Unfortunately, there was no way to go back other than sitting through the preview again. Which would have killed us both. So maybe the whole crippled DVD thing is an attempt to cover up that spelling mistake.
Well, as I’ve mentioned before, I’m not a huge fan of the Austrian mail service. Mainly because they don’t deliver packages. Which I always thought as crucial for a mail service. Today I noticed that they do in fact deliver packages. At 7 a.m., that is. Now, we rarely ever get up before seven. My girlfriend starts her work at nine, and the stuff I have to do for university mostly starts sometime around ten. So, are we very different from other people? When do others get up normally? Is seven an official “I’m awake” hour? Is it an hour when you’re supposed to be dressed and ready to receive a package? In an effort to save you and me from the embarassment of nobody commenting on these questions, I’ll just do it myself:
IT’S FUCKING NOT!
Disclaimer: Profanity above. If you’ve been offended by my use of an inflected four letter expletive, go fuck yourself. No , I’m just kidding. You can stay.
It hurts, but I need to write about Star Wars again. I just watched the late news on ORF, and they had a segment about Cannes and the Star Wars premiere. To images of Stormtroopers parading the red carpet, the commentator covering the event said something like:
“The daily deployment of the Star Wars robots is starting to anger critics and cineasts alike…”
Now, I’m not a Star Wars specialist at all. Hell, I don’t even think Natalie Portman is that hot. But come on, robots ? I mean, from someone who’s getting paid to live in a hotel in Cannes, watch movies all day and do one minute daily segments, one would expect competence to some degree. Which should include knowing that Stormtroopers are indeed not robots, but rather ordinary faceless war pigs. But hey, it’s just another bloated-budget Hollywood movie not worthy of further scrutiny, so why bother, right?
This news-story about a guy found walking on a road near the sea, soaking wet and refusing to answer any questions, but playing the piano like a pro, is just unbelievable. It sounds like a story someone has made up for April 1st, but after I checked my calendar, I noticed that it is indeed not April 1st. So what do you think is up with him? Fallen off a cruise-ship? Or maybe a publicity stunt for a new movie…well, I’ll keep you updated.
Update: I just noticed my mistake in the headline. Apart from that, nothing new about the wunderkind. I’m betting on fugitive by now. I hope they’ll let him out of the institute soon.
